Because it's there

A trip to Everest Base camp, it's, it's, an experience that changed me. In many ways it defies words. Every step, every experience, every sight, every sound, every person you meet, every day that you taking in this beautiful, cruel, rugged, tough, enchanting place.

Monkeying about. It was the day for it, curfew, beautiful sunny day and a few encounters with the army but in the end with the help of a couple of Russian tourists I saw the Thousand Monkey Temple. The monkeys are plentiful as is their cheek. They seem to know when you are about to take out the camera at which point they quickly abandon their charming pose to run away and just monkey about. Ah, it is their perogative, I guess. At the entry I hired a Nepalese guy as a guide. What he didn't know about these temples and shrines just wasn't worth knowing. The legend goes that once upon a time the whole valley was a great big serene lake with this hill as the only island. The temples emerged by the wishes of the gods. No one built the incredible stupa or the temples. There are 365 steps (I didn't count them) to the top and by walking them you build up Karmic credit with the gods and goddesses ( I'm not falling for that one). The amazing thing is that the whole place is shared by Buddhists and Hindus alike. In fact lots of the temples are and have been shared for centuries like this, peacefully. Each and every facet having a meaning within each philosophy.
